As with most 1,001 Dark Nights novellas, my biggest complaint is that I wanted more – more story, more depth, more emotion and angst.

Although this is a romance, and the romance is central to the story, I would have liked a little more of the suspense and danger to the heroine to help drive it along. Of course, there’s only so much you can do in a novella and the author focused the story where it needed to be but I didn’t feel the underlying sense of urgency that I probably would have felt in a full-length novel.

Once I realized the author intends for this to be the final book of the Raven Riders series, I was especially disappointed. It feels like the series isn’t finished. There are a couple of loose threads I would have liked to see tied up. She hasn’t said absolutely no to Jagger or Phoenix getting their own story (my vote is for Jagger!), but that there is nothing planned right now. So if you’re the type to light a candle to the romance muses, you might want to find a lighter.
